United Airlines to launch Guam – Tokyo Haneda in May 2024, reveals schedule

United Airlines 737-800
Once the Guam – Haneda route is in service, United’s 737-800 will be the smallest American airline aircraft to regularly fly to Haneda.

On February 23, 2024, United Airlines announced the schedule of its upcoming year-round daily Guam – Tokyo Haneda flights. The airline plans to operate the first flight on May 1, 2024.

United Airlines applied with the US Department of Transportation on January 26, 2024, asking to be granted daily nighttime slots to Tokyo Haneda Airport which Hawaiian Airlines will return at the beginning of April 2024. On February 14, 2024, United urged the department to immediately approve its application as there were no objections to it by other stakeholders. Two days later the department tentatively approved the application with the standard conditions:

  • The service needs to be inaugurated within 90 days of May 1, 2024, the date which United proposed as the launch date in its application, or else the slot will be returned to the department
  • The route cannot be suspended for longer than 90 days once it is in service or else the slot will be returned to the department, subject to its dormancy rule

With that, United revealed details of the upcoming route and put it up for sale, while still noting the route is subject to government approval. The airline plans to connect Guam with Tokyo Haneda daily, as follows:

  • UA849 / Guam – Tokyo Haneda / 7:05PM – 10:00PM
  • UA848 / Tokyo Haneda – Guam / 11:55PM – 4:45AM

United Airlines will use Boeing 737-800 aircraft equipped with 166 seats including 16 in business and 150 in economy class.

While this route will be the first non-stop link between Guam and Haneda, United already operates 32 weekly (up to four daily) flights between Guam and Narita Airport. It also offers flights between Guam and Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka.

Outside Guam, United also flies between Narita and Saipan and has an extensive network of flights from the two Tokyo airports to destinations on the US mainland including Newark, Washington D.C., Houston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
