On December 15, 2025, Qantas will resume seasonal flights between Sydney and Sapporo New Chitose for the first time since operating the route for one season, between 2019 and 2020, prior to the pandemic. The coming season, the route will operate three times a week until March 28, 2026, as follows:
- QF107 / Sydney – Sapporo New Chitose / 9:05AM – 5:55PM / Mon, Wed, Sat
- QF108 / Sapporo New Chitose – Sydney / 7:40PM – 8:35AM+1 / Mon, Wed, Sat
Qantas plans to use Airbus A330-200 aircraft with 255 seats including 27 in business and 228 in economy class on the route, like it did when it first launched it.
“We know Sapporo is an extremely popular winter destination for Aussies who love the snow and we’re excited to make it even easier for them to reach Hokkaido’s world-class ski resorts with a direct fight from Sydney,” said Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace. “We last flew to Sapporo in early-2020 and had extremely positive feedback from customers, so we’re looking forward to operating this route again,” he continued.
The Qantas route will be the only non-stop link between Hokkaido’s largest airport and Australia.
It will complement the airline’s existing network to Japan, which includes flights from Sydney to Tokyo Haneda and Melbourne and Brisbane to Tokyo Narita alongside flights from Sydney, Brisbane, and Cairns to Osaka Kansai, and Brisbane and Cairns to Tokyo Narita operated by Jetstar. Combined, “The Qantas Group now offers eight routes and over 1.5 million seats between Australia and Japan every year,” according to the statement.
Separately, both ANA and JAL offer flights between Tokyo Haneda and Sydney. While Virgin Australia also serves Haneda, out of Cairns, it plans to terminate the route at the end of February 2025. The slot pair will, instead, be taken over by Qantas, which plans to move its Melbourne and Brisbane flights from Narita to Haneda while relaunching Sydney – Narita.
