On December 16, 2024, JAL and IndiGo will start codesharing as part of a partnership first announced at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Dubai in July 2024. Initially, JAL flight numbers will be put on selected IndiGo domestic flights around India. IndiGo’s flight numbers are expected to be added to selected international JAL flights at a later point.
“Currently, JAL operates daily services between Tokyo(Haneda) and Delhi, and five times weekly services between Tokyo(Narita) and Bengaluru. Through this new partnership with IndiGo, JAL will be able to establish a comprehensive network across India, connecting to numerous major cities via JAL-operated flights,” said JAL’s statement.
Subject to government approval, the following IndiGo routes, reaching 18 destinations in India will also be sold as JAL flights starting from December 3, 2024 (for flights departing on December 16, 2024):
- Delhi and Bengaluru: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Mumbai, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Kochi, Goa, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Chennai, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Varanasi
- Delhi: Bengaluru and Leh
- Bengaluru: Chandigarh and Trichy
The first JAL-operated routes to become part of the codeshare partnership when it is expanded to include JAL-operated, IndiGo-marketed flights will be Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai – Bangkok and Tokyo Haneda and Narita – Singapore. According to the statement, “Both airlines look forward to further expanding their cooperation in the future.
Oneworld member JAL and IndiGo’s partnership replaces the former’s partnership with Vistara, which ended at the end of 2024 summer schedule (October 26, 2024). At that time, Vistara, which did not belong to any of the major airline alliances, ceased operations and was merged into Star Alliance’s Air India. Air India started codesharing with the Star Alliance member ANA in May this year.
