On June 3, 2024, JAL and IndiGo announced they will start codesharing from the 2024 winter schedule. The partnership will start with JAL flight numbers being put on IndiGo’s select domestic flights around India. At a later point, IndiGo is expected to add its flight numbers to JAL flights too.
JAL flight numbers will be put on flights from Delhi and Bengaluru, the two destinations in India served by JAL, to Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Kochi, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Pune, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Goa. With that, JAL’s customers will be able to access part of IndiGo’s network and book one-stop itineraries from Tokyo to any of the 14 codeshare destinations.
“Over time, we intend to expand the scope of geographic and reciprocal coverage of this relationship to further grow travel opportunities for customers of both airlines,” said Abhijit DasGupta, IndoGo’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning & Revenue Management. At a later date, IndiGo is expected to add its flight numbers to JAL’s daily Tokyo Haneda – Delhi flights and three weekly Tokyo Narita – Bengaluru flights, as well as domestic flights.
The agreement, signed at the IATA Annual General Meeting in Dubai is JAL’s post-pandemic partnership with an international airline. It follows ANA’s codeshare partnership with Air India announced in late April 2024. In addition to expanding JAL’s reach in India, it will also enable IndiGo, an airline with over 60% domestic market share in India, to establish a foothold in Japan, a country it does not serve directly.
