JAL to offer first class on Tokyo Haneda – Honolulu during this New Year’s season

JAL took delivery of five A350-1000s but only retired one 777-300ER so far.

JAL will upgauge the equipment on six roundtrips between Tokyo Haneda and Honolulu during this New Year’s season from Boeing 787-9 to 777-300ER aircraft. By doing so, the airline will not only increase the overall capacity on the route but also offer first class in addition to business, premium economy, and economy.

From Tokyo to Honolulu, the 777-300ER will be deployed on flights:

  • JL74: December 26, 27, and 31, 2024; January 1, 2025
  • JL72: December 30, 2024, and January 5, 2025

In the other direction, the following flights will be upgauged:

  • JL73: December 26, 27, and 31, 2024; January 1 and 5, 2025
  • JL72: December 30, 2024

The 777-300ER is equipped with 244 seats including eight in first, 49 in business, 40 in premium economy, and 147 in economy class as opposed to the 239 seats including 28 in business, 21 in premium economy, and 190 in economy class the 787-9 is equipped with.

Unlike ANA, which offers first class on its Airbus A380-operated Narita – Honolulu flights, JAL does not normally offer first class on its flights to Hawaii.

JAL is currently in the process of replacing its 777-300ERs with A350-1000s one-to-one. It is able to use its former flagship on the Hawaii route since it already took delivery of five A350-1000s but only retired one 777-300ER so far.
