JAL’s fifth Airbus A350-1000, registered JA05WJ, departed Toulouse on August 10, 2024, and arrived at its new home, Tokyo Haneda, around noon on August 11, 2024.

With that, Airbus has yet to deliver eight of the 13 A350-1000s JAL ordered. Three more of those are expected to join the airline’s fleet within this fiscal year, i.e., March 31, 2025.

The fifth A350-1000’s delivery follows just over a week after the fourth airframe, JA04WJ, departed Toulouse on July 31, 2024, arriving in Tokyo the next day. The first three airframes were delivered during previous Japanese fiscal year with JA01WJ joining the fleet in December 2023, JA02WJ in January 2024, and JA03WJ in March 2024.

JAL is currently in the process of replacing its 13 original flagship Boeing 777-300ERs with the new flagship. It currently sends the aircraft, which are equipped with brand new cabins including JAL’s first business and first class suites with doors, from Tokyo Haneda to New York twice a day.

The airline also started deploying the A350-1000 on Haneda – Dallas flights in April 2024. While that route is currently back to being temporarily operated by the 777-300ER, it is expected to return to limited A350-1000 service from August 19, 2024, and to daily A350-1000 service from August 29, 2024.

London Heathrow is expected to become JAL’s third A350-1000 destination later this fiscal year
