Eastar Jet’s CEO Joong-seok Cho agreed to launch flights from Seoul Incheon to Tokushima in an agreement signed jointly with Tokushima Prefecture’s governor Masazumi Gotoda on August 8, 2024.
Exact details of the upcoming route have not been finalized yet. According to Cho, however, the airline would like to launch flights to Tokushima as early as within this year and operate them three times a week.
Currently, no scheduled international routes serve Tokushima airport. While Cathay Dragon used to serve the airport seasonally from Hong Kong, those flights have been discontinued when the pandemic brought the travel industry to a halt. That said, the prefecture signed an agreement with Greater Bay Airlines, which plans to launch flights from Hong Kong to Tokushima, potentially as early as this fall.
Eastar Jet already serves multiple destinations in Japan including Tokyo Narita, Osaka Kansai, Fukuoka, Sapporo New Chitose, and Naha.
