Both of the routes are operated by China Eastern’s A320s.

Later this month, China Eastern Airlines will increase its capacity on the Qingdao – Tokyo Narita and Xian – Tokyo Narita routes considerably. Both will be increased to three weekly rotations, the former from the current two and the latter from one.

With that, starting from April 27, 2024, the Qingdao route will operate as follows:

  • MU5079 / Qingdao – Tokyo Narita / 10:00AM – 2:00PM* / Wed, Sat**, Sun
  • MU5080 / Tokyo Narita – Qingdao / 3:00PM – 5:50PM* / Wed, Sat**, Sun

* The scheduled departure and arrival times vary by a few minutes depending on the day.
** Newly added frequency.

The frequency on the Xian route will increase from April 27. From that point onward, the flights will operate as follows:

  • MU593 / Xian – Tokyo Narita / 8:20AM – 1:55PM / Tue*, Thu, Sun*
  • MU594 / Tokyo Narita – Xian / 2:55PM – 7:15PM / Tue*, Thu, Sun*

* Newly added frequencies.

Both of the routes will continue to be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft. While China Eastern Airlines is the only airline serving the Tokyo Narita – Qingdao route, it competes with Hainan Airlines on the Tokyo Narita – Xian route.

In addition to these two routes, China Eastern Airlines also plans to significantly increase capacity between Shanghai and Japan by adding new frequencies on its existing routes to Tokyo Haneda, Okayama, Nagoya Chubu, and Shizuoka.
