ANA announced it will gradually roll out a new international fare type structure. In addition to rebranding and revising the rules of the existing fare types, the airline will add an economy “Basic” fare. With that, it will offer eight different fares as opposed to the current seven.
The major change between the existing fare type structure and the new structure is ANA starting to offer tickets with no checked baggage allowance. While all economy class tickets under the existing system include two pieces of checked baggage, tickets booked under the new “Basic,” “Light,” and “Value” fares will include between zero and two checked bags depending on the route.
Those booked under the new “Value Plus,” “Classic,” “Standard,” “Flex,” and “Full Flex” fares will continue to include two checked bags. First class passengers will continue to be able to check in three and business and premium economy class passengers two bags regardless of the fare type of their ticket.
Additionally, unlike ANA’s existing fare types all of which offer advance seat selection (for extra fee on lower-tier fares in the case of some seats), the airline’s new “Basic” fare will not allow passengers to select their seats in advance, for free or for a fee. ANA Diamond and Platinum members, who can assign themselves otherwise paid seats for free, will not be able to pre-select their seats on “Basic” fares either.
Recently, ANA’s low-cost subsidiaries Peach and AirJapan also revamped their fare type structures.
