On May 25, 2024, Vietnam Airlines operated a charter flight from Hanoi to Izumo. It was the first flight between Vietnam and Izumo in 12 years and the first flight ever between Hanoi and Vietnam.
The charter flight, which brought in 165 tourists for five days, was operated by an Airbus A321neo registered VN-A623 and welcomed with a water salute. The roundtrip operated as follows:
- VN9334 / Hanoi – Izumo / 3:50AM – 10:00AM
- VN9335 / Izumo – Hanoi / 11:30AM – 2:50PM
At a ceremony commemorating the flight, Shimane Prefecture’s Mayor Tatsuya Maruyama said “I want this charter flight to be the first step in establishing scheduled flights between Vietnam and Izumo.” Currently, there are no scheduled international flights to Izumo Airport. That said, the airport offers domestic connections to Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya among other cities.
The visitors that arrived on the flight will return to Vietnam on May 29, 2024, on the second charter flight, which will operate as follows:
- VN9334 / Hanoi – Izumo / 11:00AM – 4:40PM
- VN9335 / Izumo – Hanoi / 6:10PM – 10:05PM
