In October 2024, United Airlines revealed it would be launching three fifth freedom routes out of Tokyo Narita including Ulaanbaatar, Koror, and Kaohsiung. The last of those has been released for sale now, revealing the schedule to be as follows once the route launches on July 11, 2024, in the direction from Tokyo and a day later in the other direction:
- UA837 / Tokyo Narita – Kaohsiung / 5:30PM – 9:00PM
- UA838 / Kaohsiung – Tokyo Narita / 10:25AM – 3:15PM
The route will be operated using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 166 seats including 16 in business and 150 in economy class.
United will be the fourth airline to connect Tokyo with Kaohsiung. Currently, EVA Air and Thai AirAsia offer daily flights, China Airlines offers 10 weekly flights, and Tigerair Taiwan offers four weekly flights between Narita and Kaohsiung.
The new fifth freedom route’s schedule is set in a way to allow for transit to and from United’s mainland US network out of Tokyo Narita, which includes Denver, Houston, Newark, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The airline also serves Guam, Saipan, and Cebu out of Narita, and Chicago, Guam, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington out of Haneda.
