Tigerair Taiwan planning to launch Taipei Taoyuan – Yonago in mid-January 2025

Should Tigerair Taiwan launch flights to Yonago as planned, it will be the first time for the Japanese airport to have a nonstop connection with Taipei.

Tottori Prefecture is in advanced stage of coordinating the launch of flights between Taipei Taoyuan and Yonago with Tigerair Taiwan. The route is expected to launch in mid-January 2025, the local newspaper The San-in Chuo Shimpo reported.

According to the report, Tigerair Taiwan will operate two weekly roundtrips on the route. It is not yet clear as whether those will operate as regular scheduled flights or scheduled charters. Shinji Hirai, the governor of Tottori Prefecture, in which Yonago Airport is located, is expected to visit Taiwan and meet with the airline’s chairman Kevin Chen to further discuss details of the route.

Tigerair Taiwan will use 180-seater Airbus A320-200 or A320neo aircraft on the route.

Tottori Prefecture and Tigerair Taiwan first agreed to work toward launching flights between Taipei and Yonago in September 2023, with the aim of launching charters during 2024. While that plan appears to have been delayed, should the route launch in 2025 as currently planned, it will be the first time for the two cities to be connected with non-stop flights.

Yonago’s international passenger network before the COVID-19 pandemic included Air Seoul flights to Seoul Incheon and seasonal Hong Kong Airlines flights to Hong Kong. The former was resumed last October. The Hong Kong route will return this October but it will be operated by Greater Bay Airlines instead.
