Greater Bay Airlines will operate charters to Yonago before launching scheduled flights.

Greater Bay Airlines is set to launch Hong Kong – Yonago flights on October 27, 2024, The San-in Chuo Shimpo reported earlier today.

The airline plans to operate the route three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, as follows:

  • HB356 / Hong Kong – Yonago / 10:45AM – 3:20PM / Tue, Thu
  • HB356 / Hong Kong – Yonago / 11:45AM – 4:20PM / Sun
  • HB357 / Yonago – Hong Kong / 4:20PM – 7:45PM/ Tue, Thu
  • HB357 / Yonago – Hong Kong / 5:20PM – 8:45PM/ Sun

According to The San-in Chuo Shimpo, Shinji Hirai, the governor of Tottori Prefecture, in which Yonago Airport is located, confirmed the plans with Liza Ng, the CEO of Greater Bay Airlines during his visit to Hong Kong earlier this week. The governor’s agenda published prefecture’s website shows that Hirai met with Ng and others at 3 p.m. on August 14, 2024.

Once the flights launch, Greater Bay Airlines will be the only airline to offer non-stop flights between Yonago and Hong Kong.

That said, it will not be the first time for the route to be operated. In September 2016, Hong Kong Airlines started offering two weekly flights between the cities. The scheduled route was then increased to three weekly frequencies from December 2018 before being suspended in February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Separately, Greater Bay Airlines plans to operate charter flights on the route on August 17 and 22, 2024 on behalf of a Hong Kong tour operator.

Greater Bay Airlines currently offers scheduled flights from Hong Kong to Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai and is also eyeing launching flights to Sendai this fall. The airline operates a fleet of eight single class 189-seater Boeing 737-800s and has 15 737-9s on order.

2024/08/23 UPDATE: Planned flight schedule added.
