Tigerair Taiwan is planning to launch flights between Taipei Taoyuan and Miyazaki in late November 2024, Miyazaki Prefecture’s governor Shunji Kono revealed at a prefectural assembly meeting held on September 11, 2024.
“Due to aircraft availability among other reasons, the flights will only operate once a week, but I would like to promote the route’s use so that the frequency can be increased,” said Kono.
Given that the airline has not yet officially announced the route, the day of operation or exact schedule are still unclear. Regardless of which of the two aircraft types the airline operates (A320-200 or A320neo) will be used on the route, 180 economy class seats will be available on each flight.
Miyazaki last had non-stop connection with Taipei before the pandemic when China Airlines (80% owner of Tigerair Taiwan) offered two weekly rotations. Currently, the only international route to Miyazaki is Asiana Airlines’ service from Seoul Incheon, which will be increased from late October 2024.
The prefecture’s data indicates that only around 10,000 tourists from Taiwan stayed overnight in Miyazaki Prefecture last year compared with the pre-pandemic peak of 66,500 people.
