On December 4, 2024, JAL Cargo and Qatar Airways Cargo signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their collaboration to allow cargo to be delivered to a wider range of destinations by both airlines.
“This MoU symbolizes a commitment to a deeper partnership, aiming to integrate both networks via the hubs in Doha and Tokyo. This will enhance network connectivity and product offerings for customers, linking Japan to Qatar Airways’ extensive network in Europe, the Middle East, the Levant, and Africa, and vice versa,” said Qatar Airway Cargo’s Chief Officer Cargo Mark Drusch.
In addition to JAL utilizing Qatar Airways’ network, Qatar Airways will be able to utilize JAL’s network within Northeast Asia.
To further grow the partnership, Qatar Airways Cargo plans to launch dedicated freighter service between Doha and Tokyo Narita in 2025. Qatar Airways already offers daily passenger service on the route with plans to increase it to double daily by next summer and JAL offers daily passenger service to Doha from Tokyo Haneda.
In addition to utilizing capacity in the cargo holds of their passenger flights, both Qatar Airways and JAL operate fleets of dedicated freighters. The former operates approximately 30 Boeing 777Fs with orders for the upcoming 777-8F and the latter operates a pair of converted 767-300ERs with plans to add one more to the fleet.
