Chubu Airport to increase passenger security service charge from October 2024

Nagoya Chubu Airport
Domestic passengers do not need to pay the PSSC.

On July 5, 2024, Nagoya Chubu operator Central Japan International Airport Co., Ltd. announced it will raise its passenger security service charge (PSSC) for tickets issued on or after October 1, 2024. The fee will be increased from the current 350 yen (2.18 USD) to 580 yen (3.61 USD).

The PSSC is payable by passengers departing the airport on international flights. It is used for financing expenses related to passenger security checks and baggage inspections ranging from X-ray machines all the way to security check staff. Infants under two years old are exempt from paying the charge, which is collected at the time of booking.

Similar to Sendai Airport which increased its PSSC in June 2024 and Narita Airport which will do so at the beginning of September 2024, Chubu’s operator cites issues with securing enough staff as one of the key reasons behind the fee increase.

Nagoya Chubu’s traffic is recovering from the pandemic and in FY2023 (April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024) reached 9.18 million passengers including 3.22 million traveling on international flights.
