JAL to expand Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya – Shanghai service from late October 2024

JAL 737-800
JAL’s Tokyo Narita – Shanghai Pudong route will be operated using 737-800s.

Starting from the 2024 winter schedule (i.e., from October 27, 2024), JAL will resume flights between Tokyo Narita and Shanghai Pudong that it suspended in November 2020 due to the pandemic. The airline will also increase Osaka Kansai and Nagoya Chubu – Pudong service to daily.

The Tokyo Narita – Shanghai Pudong flights will operate as follows (the Japan-bound flight will depart earlier than the China-bound flight as the aircraft operating the Tokyo and Nagoya flights will switch in China):

  • JL874 / Shanghai Pudong – Tokyo Narita / 12:10PM – 4:05PM
  • JL877 / Tokyo Narita – Shanghai Pudong / 1:50PM – 4:40PM

Combined with its double daily service to the airport from Tokyo Haneda and daily Haneda – Shanghai Hongqiao route, JAL will offer four daily flights between the cities. JAL also operates dedicated freighter flights to Shanghai.

The Nagoya – Shanghai route will increase from the current five weekly flights (excluding Mondays and Fridays) to daily and operate as follows:

  • JL883 / Nagoya Chubu – Shanghai Pudong / 8:55AM – 11:05AM
  • JL884 / Shanghai Pudong – Nagoya Chubu / 5:45PM – 9:10PM

Both of the routes will be operated using Boeing 737-800s with 144 seats including 12 in business and 132 in economy class.

The Osaka – Shanghai route will increase from the current three weekly flights (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays) to daily and operate as follows:

  • JL891 / Osaka Kansai – Shanghai Pudong / 10:10AM – 12:05PM
  • JL894 / Shanghai Pudong – Osaka Kansai / 1:25PM – 4:40PM

JAL will continue to use its 206-seater Boeing 787-8s with 30 business and 176 economy class seats on the route.

With the service expansion, JAL will offer nearly 3,500 weekly seats between Japan and Shanghai Pudong in each direction.
