
In January 2024, JAL announced Mitsuko Tottori would become the airline’s first woman president starting in April 2024. On February 21, 2024, the airline announced further planned board of directors and executive officer changes including the creation of a second executive vice president role.
Subject to approval at JAL’s upcoming June 2024 general shareholders’ meeting, six of the airline’s nine members of the board of directors will be reappointed.
Three current directors, Yoshiharu Ueki, Shinichiro Shimizu, and Tadayuki Tsutsumi will no longer serve as members of the board; however, Shimizu will retain his Vice Chairperson position.
Three new directors will replace them:
- Noriyuki Aoki joined the company in 1989, served among other roles as the President of Japan TransOcean Air, and currently works as JAL’s Senior Vice President – General Affairs and is one of the airline’s Managing Executive Officers. He will be appointed the company’s second Executive Vice President.
- Yoriyuki Kashiwagi joined the company in 1986, served in a variety of roles in HR and sales among others, and now heads JAL’s Policy Management Center. In addition to joining the board, he will also be promoted from Managing Executive Officer to Senior Managing Executive Officer.
- Ryo Tamura joined the company in 1988 and led JAL’s procurement and maintenance teams among other roles. Currently, he serves as JAL’s Senior Vice President – Engineering and Maintenance, as well as the President of JAL Engineering. He is one of JAL’s Managing Executive Officers.
In addition to changes to the board, one of JAL’s outside corporate auditors, Osamu Kamo, will step down and be replaced by Mariko Matsumura.
Lastly, six Senior and Deputy Senior Vice Presidents will also be newly appointed as Executive Officers:
- Junko Sakihara: Deputy Senior Vice President – Customer Experience
- Masaki Minami: Senior Vice President – Flight Operations
- Yuji Koyama: Senior Vice President – Corporate Strategy and Planning
- Kaori Nishiharaguchi: Deputy Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Senior Vice President – Tokyo
- Miho Endo: Senior Vice President – Kyushu Region
- Takao Suzuki: Senior Vice President – Innovation
