Tottori Prefecture is coordinating the launch of non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Yonago with Hong Kong-based low-cost Greater Bay Airlines, potentially as early as in late October 2024, the prefecture’s governor Shinji Hirai said at a regular press conference on July 25, 2024.
According to the prefecture, while the frequency is not fixed yet, the flights are expected to operate around three times per week. The governor said he is hoping for the flights to launch before Expo 2025, which will be held in Osaka from next April as he expects that to boost the demand for the route.
While Yonago Airport currently lacks non-stop flights to Hong Kong, the Japanese airport was served by Hong Kong Airlines until February 2020 when the route was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hong Kong Airlines also briefly resumed the route between December 2023 and February 2024. This August, Greater Bay Airlines plans to operate two charter roundtrips on the route.
Greater Bay Airlines currently operates scheduled flights from Hong Kong to Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai and is also eyeing launching flights to Sendai.
