On January 31, 2024, facial recognition gates that allow Japanese nationals who register in advance to enter Japan without presenting their passport at immigration were put into experimental use at Tokyo Haneda Airport’s Terminal 2 used exclusively by ANA. It has now been announced that the gates were supplied by Panasonic Connect.

The gates were developed in cooperation with Osaka Metro and Takamisawa Cybernetics.

About 200 Panasonic Connect facial recognition gates are used at Haneda Airport’s Terminal 3 and six other airports in Japan including Tokyo Narita, Nagoya Chubu, Osaka Kansai, Fukuoka, Sapporo New Chitose, and Naha too. At those points of entry, however, passengers need to scan their passports at the gates before their face is scanned and compared against their passport photos.
