JAL and the operator of the Universal Studios Japan (USJ) partnered to create their next logojet, the “Donkey Kong Country Opening Memorial JAL x Universal Studios Japan Jet 2,” the two companies announced on November 13, 2024.

The new special livery, designed to commemorate the opening of a Donkey Kong-themed attraction in USJ’s Super Nintendo area, will be worn by aircraft registered JA245J, an Embraer E190 operated by JAL’s subsidiary J-Air. It will feature characters from a number of different franchises including Donkey Kong, Super Mario, Minions, and Sesame Street on each side of its fuselage.

JAL plans to put the new logojet into service on January 14, 2025, on flight JL2057 from Osaka Itami to Fukuoka. From then on, the aircraft will be used on all regional routes around Japan operated by the E190, primarily out of Osaka Itami, until around June 2026 when it will be returned to regular livery.

In addition to livery, the headrest covers and cups used on board the logojet will feature the same theming as well and passengers will receive one of five different stickers serving as boarding certificates.

The “Donkey Kong Country Opening Memorial JAL x Universal Studios Japan Jet 2” follows the “JAL x Universal Studios Japan Jet,” which J-Air operated between January 2022 and April 2023. Two Minion-themed logojets were operated by the airline prior to that.

Separately from the collaboration with USJ, JAL also recently introduced a logojet commemorating the opening of Tokyo DisneySea’s new area and a Shohei Ohtani-themed logojet.
