ANA will be the first airline to connect Tokyo and Milan since Alitalia terminated its Malpensa – Narita route.

ANA will add three new European destinations to its network between December 2024 and February 2025, the airline announced today, July 19, 2024. The first of those will be Milan Malpensa, which will be launched on December 3, 2024.

From then on, ANA will connect Japan’s capital with Milan three times a week as follows:

  • NH207 / Tokyo Haneda – Milan Malpensa / 1:05AM – 8:30AM / Tue, Thu, Sun
  • NH208 / Milan Malpensa – Tokyo Haneda / 10:30AM – 7:30AM+1 / Tue, Thu, Sun

ANA will use Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 215 seats including 48 in business, 21 in premium economy, and 146 in economy class on the route. Tickets will become available for booking on July 22, 2024.

While in the past Alitalia connected Tokyo Narita with both Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino, currently there are no direct flights between Tokyo and Milan. ANA’s codeshare partner ITA Airways, which is expected to switch from SkyTeam to Star Alliance in the near future, currently operates daily flights between Rome and Tokyo Haneda.

Milan will be ANA’s seventh destination in Europe following its existing routes from Tokyo Haneda to London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Munich; from Tokyo Narita to Brussels; and upcoming Tokyo Haneda – Vienna route, which is scheduled to launch in August 2024. Stockholm and Istanbul will follow later, in January and February 2025 respectively.

All three of the destinations being launched during the upcoming winter schedule are ones that the airline originally planned to start serving in April 2020 before its plans were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
