Today, November 13, 2024, ZIPAIR introduced “Seat Plus,” an option that allows passengers to purchase an empty seat next to theirs after take-off. The price varies depending on the route and whether it is a regular or bulkhead/emergency exit row seat:

  • Tokyo – Seoul: 500 yen (regular) / 1,500 yen (bulkhead or emergency exit row)
  • Tokyo – Manila, Bangkok, Singapore: 1,300 yen / 4,000 yen
  • Tokyo – Honolulu: 2,000 yen / 6,000 yen
  • Tokyo – North America: 2,700 yen / 8,000 yen

Similar to ZIPAIR’s paid option to change seats after boarding, passengers need to ask the cabin crew to secure the seat next to them and pay the required fee using a credit or debit card.

It is unclear how the new option will be handled operationally in situations such as when passengers use two seats without paying or when a passenger in the seat on the other side of the empty seat uses the empty seat for storing items or similar.
