Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism recognized a construction vehicle’s runway incursion incident that took place at Sapporo New Chitose Airport around midnight on November 28, 2024, as serious.

The incident occurred when a Spring Japan Airbus A321 operating on behalf of Yamato Transport was arriving from Tokyo Narita as flight IJ407. While the aircraft registered JA82YA was approaching runway 01R after having received a clearance to land, a construction vehicle of the airport operator Hokkaido Airports’ contractor entered the runway.

“No one was injured and no damage was caused to aircraft or airport-related facilities as a result of this incident,” said an apology statement issued by Hokkaido Airports’ Representative Director Takeshi Gamo.

The cause of the incident is currently being investigated.
