At the beginning of this week, WestJet announced an expansion of its long-haul network. Among other things, the airline revealed its plan to make its currently seasonal Calgary – Tokyo Narita route year-round from the 2024 winter schedule.
Until the end of September 2024, the route is scheduled to operate daily as follows:
- WS80 / Calgary – Tokyo Narita / 3:10PM – 4:25PM+1
- WS81 / Tokyo Narita – Calgary / 6:30PM – 12:43PM
After that, from the beginning of October 2024 until the end of the 2024 summer schedule (October 26, 2024), the flights will mostly operate five times per week. The newly added winter service will start on October 27, 2024. From then until the end of the winter schedule in the spring of 2025, the route will operate three times a week, every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday in the direction to Tokyo, and every Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday in the other direction.
WestJet uses the only widebody aircraft type in its fleet, the 787-9, on the route. The aircraft are equipped with 320 seats including 16 in business, 28 in premium economy, and 276 in economy class.
WestJet is the only airline offering non-stop flights between Calgary and Tokyo. Because of the airline’s codeshare partnership with JAL, passengers flying on the route can connect to seven domestic destinations from Tokyo.
