Most flights to and from Tokyo this afternoon were canceled ahead of time due to Typhoon Ampil.

With Typhoon Ampil (Typhoon No. 7) expected to make a landfall in Tokyo later today, August 16, 2024, a significant portion of especially afternoon flights to and from Haneda and Narita airports have been canceled ahead of time. ANA and JAL will also close their domestic counters at Haneda at noon.

So far, both JAL and ANA canceled around 280 domestic flights departing from and arriving at the two Tokyo airports. The former also canceled around 40 and the latter over 50 international flights.

Smaller airlines operating domestic flights at Haneda Airport including Air Do, Skymark Airlines, Solaseed Air, and StarFlyer canceled about 40 to 50 flights each. Over 100 low-cost airline flights operated by AirJapan, Jetstar Japan, Peach, and ZIPAIR were also canceled ahead of time.

Many foreign airlines canceled their flights to and from Tokyo today as well, with most flights in the afternoon not operating. Among others, Lufthansa canceled its flight from Frankfurt to Haneda, Finnair from Helsinki to Haneda, and Philippine Airlines from Manila to Haneda.

In addition to today, selected flights, in particular those operated by aircraft originally scheduled to arrive in Tokyo this afternoon and stay overnight, are expected to be canceled tomorrow as well.
