Toki Air issued an apology over operation disruptions due to the grounding of both of its ATR 72s. While one of the aircraft has been returned to service, the other one is expected to remain grounded until mid-January 2025, leading to flight cancellations and schedule changes.

On select days between December 20, 2024, and January 13, 2025, Toki Air will operate one instead of two daily rotations from Niigata to Sapporo Okadama and Sendai. It will also operate one instead of two roundtrips between Niigata and Nagoya Chubu on January 3 and 4, 2025. The Nagoya route will also operate approximately five hours late on select other days.

The disruption comes after one of Toki Air’s ATR 72s, aircraft registered JA02QQ, was struck by lighting on its way from Nagoya Chubu to Niigata on December 15, 2024. On the same day, its other ATR 72, JA01QQ, encountered problems with fuel system and was grounded at Nagoya Chubu. While the latter aircraft was repaired on the night of December 18, 2024, and resumed operations the next day, the former remains grounded.

Toki Air recently took delivery of its third aircraft, an ATR 42, however, that aircraft has not been put into service yet.
