On May 16, 2024, Thai AirAsia X announced it will resume flights between Bangkok and Nagoya on August 1, 2024. The airline previously connected the two cities until March 2020 when it suspended the route due to the pandemic.
While before the pandemic, Thai AirAsia X served Nagoya Chubu out of Don Muang Airport in Bangkok, this time around it will operate the route out of the larger Suvarnabhumi Airport. Initially, the flights will operate four times a week as follows:
- XJ638 / Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Nagoya Chubu / 12:45AM – 8:40AM / Mon, Wed, Thu, Sun
- XJ639 / Nagoya Chubu – Bangkok Suvarnabhumi / 10:30AM – 2:35PM / Mon, Wed, Thu, Sun
Thai AirAsia X will use Airbus A330-300 aircraft with 377 seats including 12 in business class and 365 in economy class on the route.
The airline’s Bangkok Don Muang – Nagoya Chubu route was first launched in October 2018 and initially operated daily. Prior to the pandemic, four airlines connected Bangkok and Nagoya Chubu including JAL (daily to Suvarnabhumi), Thai Airways (double daily from Suvarnabhumi), and Thai AirAsia X and Thai Lion Air (five times a week from Don Muang).
Currently, Thai Airways daily flights from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi are Nagoya’s only non-stop link with Thai’s capital.
Nagoya Chubu will be Thai AirAsia X’s fourth destination in Japan after Tokyo Narita (double daily), Osaka Kansai (11 times a week), and Sapporo New Chitose (seasonal, up to daily). “These routes have proven to be popular amongst Thai travelers and have continued to witness a very high load factor average of around 89 percent during the first quarter of 2024,” said the airline’s CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld, when announcing the resumption.
