On May 15, 2024, Skymark Airlines announced that it will not take delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX until at least the second quarter of FY2025 (July to September 2025) due to delays at Boeing. Originally, it was planning to do so in the year’s first quarter.
Skymark Airlines has a total of up to 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on order. On November 10, 2022, the airline announced it will lease six 737-8s. At the same time, it also placed an order directly with Boeing for a mix of 737-8s and 737-10s (combined four firm orders and two options). The delay relates to the leased aircraft. The directly purchased aircraft are expected to be gradually delivered from FY2026, with the first 737-10 expected either FY2026 or FY2027.
The airline currently operates approximately 30 Boeing 737-800s on domestic flights around Japan. The new 737s will replace some of those. The 737-8s will be equipped with 177 economy class seats like the 737-800s. The 737-10s will be equipped with 210 economy class seats and will be the largest aircraft in Skymark’s fleet since the airline retired its A330-300s in 2015.
