Qatar Airways returns to Osaka after an eight-year pause

Qatar Airways previously served Kansai Airport between 2005 and 2016.

On March 1, 2024, Qatar Airways relaunched flights between Doha and Osaka Kansai Airport. The relaunch was originally planned for April 6, 2020, however, it was delayed due to the pandemic.

Going forward, the flights will operate daily with the following schedule:

  • QR802 / Doha – Osaka Kansai / 1:10AM – 4:30PM
  • QR803 / Osaka Kansai – Doha / 6:00PM – 12:05AM+1

Qatar Airways uses its Airbus A350-900s equipped with Qsuites in business class on the route. In addition to 36 Qsuites, the aircraft are equipped with 247 economy class seats for a total capacity of 283 seats.

When Qatar Airways originally launched flights to Osaka Kansai on March 31, 2005, the airline’s current hub, Hamad International Airport, was not open yet. The last time the airline connected the two cities was on March 31, 2016.

In addition to the Osaka Kansai route, Qatar Airways also connects Doha daily with both Tokyo Narita and Haneda. Its flights to Haneda, however, will be replaced by flights operated by its codeshare partner JAL, which will start at the beginning of this year’s summer schedule. Qatar Airways also puts its flight numbers on a selection of JAL’s domestic flights.
