Polar Air Cargo 777F declares emergency, returns to Narita due to engine problem

On the morning of June 4, 2024, a Boeing 777 freighter operating Polar Air Cargo flight 752 from Tokyo Narita to Los Angeles declared an emergency and returned to Narita Airport shortly after take-off. The aircraft experienced problems with its right engine.

The aircraft, registered N714SA, took off from Narita’s runway 34L at 10:16AM. The aircraft declared emergency shortly after take-off, reporting issues with its right engine and indicating it will return to Narita Airport. Following that, the 777 freighter flew above the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chiba to dump fuel in preparation for an emergency landing.

Just over an hour after take-off, at 11:26AM, the aircraft safely landed back on runway 34L. According to NHK, the aircraft stopped on a taxiway off the runway briefly before being towed to a parking spot alongside other aircraft around 11:45AM.

The incident resulted in the closure of runway 16R/34L for approximately 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
