ANA’s low-cost subsidiary Peach updated its checked baggage fee structure, replacing the ability to purchase a “sports equipment” piece of baggage with the ability to add an “oversize baggage” option on top of a regular piece of checked baggage. The new structure applies for flights departing on December 3, 2024, and later.
“We aim to improve customer convenience by allowing customers to check in oversized baggage regardless of the type of baggage. In addition, various fees will be revised in line with the rule changes,” said the statement.
While the “previous “sports equipment” fee covered items such as golf bags, bicycles, skis, snowboards, and surfs, the “oversize baggage” option applies to all pieces of baggage exceeding 204cm in the sum of height, width, and length but are no more than 80cm high and wide, and 230cm long.
The “oversize baggage” fee, charged on top of regular checked bag fee, depends on the route. Below are the fees applicable when the option is pre-booked online (higher fees apply when booked through the airline’s call center or directly at the airport):
- Domestic: 1,900 yen (approximately $12.23)
- International Zone A (Seoul): 2,300 yen (approximately $14.80)
- International Zone B (Taipei, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong): 3,300 yen
- International Zone C (Shanghai): 6,700 yen
- International Zone D (Bangkok, Singapore): 5,400 yen
The new structure represents a price decrease for domestic passengers, with transporting skis and golf clubs on Peach’s domestic flights under the previous rules cost 2,200 yen; bicycle cost 3,900 yen, and surf cost 5,100 yen.
