Between January 11 and 17, 2025, Nagoya area’s railroad operator Meitetsu and Nagoya Chubu Airport will trial in-town check-in for international flights. The trial follows a similar trial done with domestic flights in February 2024.
As part of the trial, passengers eligible for mobile check in on Cathay Pacific Airways flights 539 to Hong Kong and 531 to Hong Kong via Taipei Taoyuan will be able to check their baggage in at Meitetsu Nagoya Station’s Meitetsu Department Store for 3,000 yen per suitcase. Their baggage will then be transferred by train to the airport and loaded onto their respective flight.
The trial is being conducted as part of efforts to alleviate over-tourism and, in particular, the crowding of trains due to excess baggage. It remains unclear whether the system will be rolled out on a permanent basis.
