Between June 20 and 23, a Nippon Cargo Airlines Boeing 747-8 visited MRO Japan’s facilities in Naha, Okinawa, for maintenance for the first time, FlightRadar24 data shows.
The aircraft registered JA13KZ was ferried from Tokyo Narita to Naha on June 20, 2024, as flight KZ611. Rather than returning directly to Tokyo, the aircraft was ferried to Hong Kong as flight KZ613 after the maintenance work was finished and from there it operated a scheduled revenue flight back to Tokyo Narita.
According to Aviation Wire, MRO Japan primarily worked on the aircraft’s data transfer function and landing gear during its stay in Naha.
In January 2024, Nippon Cargo Airlines and MRO Japan signed a framework agreement related to aircraft maintenance.
MRO Japan has the capability to perform light and heavy maintenance on A320s, 737s, 767s, and Dash 8 Q400s. It can also perform select heavy maintenance work on 747-8s, 777s, an 787s, and do paintjobs on all seven types. The company is the only EASA-certified (A320/A321) maintenance organization in Japan.
Nippon Cargo Airlines operates a fleet of Boeing 747-8s and is in the process of being acquired by ANA, MRO Japan’s largest shareholder.
