While currently Malaysia Airlines only serves Tokyo Narita, in the past it also used to serve Tokyo Haneda.

On May 11, 2024, Malaysia Airlines flight 71 flying from Tokyo Narita to Kuala Lumpur diverted to Tokyo Narita due to trouble with its left engine, The Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

The Airbus A350 operating the flight (registration 9M-MAD) was in the vicinity of Amami Islands when it turned around to make its way back toward Tokyo. It took off from Tokyo Narita Airport’s runway 16R at 11:11PM on May 11, 2024, and landed on Tokyo Haneda Airport’s runway 34L about an hour and a half later.

According to the report, approximately 200 passengers and crew members were onboard, and runway 16R/34L at Tokyo Haneda was closed for approximately an hour after the aircraft landed to check for potentially leaked oil.

The aircraft departed Tokyo Haneda bound for Kuala Lumpur around 11:30AM on May 12, 2024.
