As part of the ongoing renovation of Osaka Kansai Airport’s Terminal 1, a new pair of lounges will be built to replace the terminal’s existing seven international lounges. The new “Business Lounge” and “Premium Lounge” are expected to open in the spring of 2025.
While the Business Lounge will span approximately 2,970 square meters, the Premium Lounge will cover approximately 800 square meters. Kansai Airports, the operator of Osaka Kansai, described the theme of the former as “historical cities and capitals.”
Presumably, the Business Lounge will be available for use by business class passengers and holders of airline statuses equivalent to Star Alliance Gold, oneworld Sapphire, and SkyTeam Elite Plus and the Premium Lounge to first class passengers and ANA and JAL Diamond status holders.
Of the seven existing lounges, six are operational. Those include three contract lounges (KIX Airside Lounge, KIX North Lounge, and Asuka) and three airline lounges (ANA Lounge, JAL Sakura Lounge, and KAL Lounge). Lounge Pacific is currently closed.
The consolidation of Kansai Airport’s international lounges will follow the consolidation of domestic lounges, which happened in 2022. At that time, separate ANA and JAL lounges at the airport were replaced with a single lounge, Lounge KANSAI.
Since 2021, Osaka Kansai Airport’s Terminal 1 has been undergoing major renovations since 2021. In addition to building new lounges, the airside areas for both international and domestic departures were renovated, and a new, centralized security checkpoint is being worked on, with pre-opening expected in September 2024 and full opening in the spring of 2025.
