Inbound travelers to Japan top 25 million for the first time since 2019

According to Japan National Tourism Organization data released on January 17, 2024, the number of foreign visitors to Japan in 2023 topped 25 million for the first time since the pandemic started, reaching about 80% of the historic peak of about 32 million in 2019. The number of Japanese travelers leaving the country was, at just under 10 million, still only about 50% of the 2019 figure.
