South Korean low-cost airline Jin Air will expand its Japan network. From May 29, 2024, the airline will add flights between Seoul Incheon and Shimojishima, which will become its second destination in Okinawa.
The flights will operate five times a week with the following schedule:
- LJ357 / Seoul Incheon – Shimojishima / 12:40PM – 3:10PM / Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun
- LJ358 / Shimojishima – Seoul Incheon / 4:20PM – 6:50PM / Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun
Jin Air will use Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route. The airline operates the type in two all-economy configurations, one with 183 and the other with 189 seats.
Shimojishima will be Jin Air’s eighth destination in Japan. The airline currently serves Sapporo New Chitose, Tokyo Narita, Osaka Kansai, Fukuoka, and Naha out of both Seoul Incheon and Busan. It also offers flights between Seoul Incheon and Nagoya Chubu and Kitakyushu.
While Shimojishima had three weekly Hong Kong Airlines flights to Hong Kong, that route has not been resumed yet. As such, Jin Air will be the only international airline to serve the airport for the time being. Additionally, Shimojishima also has domestic flights by Jetstar Japan and Skymark Airlines.
The airport had no scheduled flights for 25 years until its new terminal was opened and Jetstar Japan launched flights from Tokyo Narita in 2019. Now the airport serves as an alternative to the nearby Miyako Airport, which is better connected domestically but lacks international flights.
