On May 8, 2024, Jetstar Japan deployed its Airbus A321LR on an international flight for the first time, replacing the usual A320 on the airline’s Tokyo Narita – Shanghai Pudong route.

For now, the A321LR is scheduled to operate the Shanghai route up to three times a week (Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays in the direction from Japan) until July 29, 2024. Overall, Jetstar Japan connects Narita with Pudong four times a week. All of the route’s Monday rotations are scheduled to be operated by the only other type in the airline’s fleet, A320-200.

In addition to being larger (238 seats versus 180 seats), Jetstar Japan’s A321LRs also offer seats with more features including USB charging ports and device holders.

Currently, the airline operates 19 A320-200s and three A321LRs. The first A321LR joined Jetstar Japan’s fleet in July 2022 and until now the type has only been used on major domestic routes. It debuted on the Tokyo Narita – Fukuoka route and now also operates the Tokyo Narita – Sapporo New Chitose and Naha routes.
