Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) and the United Kingdom’s Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) signed a working agreement expanding the scope of cooperation between the two regulators.

“This agreement is expected to reduce the burden on the aviation industries of both countries, promote the free distribution of civil aviation products, and strengthen cooperation between the UK and Japan regarding aviation safety,” said the UK CAA’s statement.

Rob Bishton, the UK CAA’s Chief Executive Officer, signed the agreement at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 25, 2024, at the presence of Makoto Eguchi, JCAB’s Director of Airworthiness Standards and International Affairs Office. Shigenori Hiraoka, JCAB’s Director-General, signed the agreement on July 19, 2024, in Tokyo.

The new agreement follows another working agreement first signed in 2019, which aimed “to outline the matters under which the Authorities accept each other’s airworthiness and environmental approvals of Civil Aeronautical Products, and environmental testing, thereby reducing redundant technical inspections, evaluations and testing.”

Japan also signed a similar agreement with South Korea this May.
