Amid a labor shortage, Narita International Airport Corporation is trying to attract ground handling companies to start offering services at the airport. JBS, which entered the ground handling business on March 15, 2024, is the first company to respond to that request.

The company, which is also involved in the travel industry and in offering shared office space among other things, launched JBS Ground Handling by putting together a team of former ground handlers. The ground handlers, who lost or quit their jobs during the pandemic, worked at Skypark Airport Terminal, a facility inside the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences near Narita Airport, which rents meeting spaces and cabin mock-ups.

JBS started its operations with 15 staff members and Batik Air as its first customer and is also expected to start handling Qingdao Airlines soon. At its current size, the company can handle three flights per day. It is aiming to expand that capacity gradually.
