JAL’s Disney Colorful Dreams Express ends service, flies to Singapore for repainting

JAL Colorful Dreams Express
The Colorful Dreams Express livery operated for just under a year.

On May 25, 2024, JAL’s Boeing 767-300ER registered JA614J and wearing the Colorful Dreams Express special livery flew from Tokyo Haneda to Singapore where it will undergo maintenance and be repainted into regular JAL livery.

The ferry flight, JL8155, took off from Haneda Airport at 9:50PM and landed in Singapore at 3:37AM. The livery’s last revenue flight was JL632 from Kumamoto to Tokyo Haneda. While JAL used to have a webpage dedicated to the logojet, that has now been taken down.

The special livery celebrating Tokyo Disney Resort’s 40th anniversary was introduced in June 2023. Its first revenue flight was a sightseeing charter flight from Tokyo Haneda Airport on June 9, 2023, which drew “40” with its flight path to commemorate the anniversary. The next day, the Colorful Dream Express operated its first scheduled flight, JL305 from Tokyo Haneda to Fukuoka. From then on, the aircraft operated on domestic routes around Japan.

In addition to wearing a special livery, the service onboard the Colorful Dream Express was themed as well. Cups used for drink service were Disney-themed and so were headrest covers in economy class and Class J. Disney-themed boarding certificates were provided on the aircraft too. The themed service, however, ended at the end of March 2024, when the partnership officially ended.

Since introducing the original Dream Express liveries in 1994, JAL operated over 20 aircraft in Disney liveries. That said, with the Colorful Dream Express ending, JAL is left with nono. Whether it will partner with Oriental Land, Tokyo Disney Resort’s operator, to introduce another one remains to be seen. The upcoming opening of Tokyo DisneySea’s new area on June 6, 2024, is the next potential occasion which the two companies could make a logojet around.
