JAL to limit meal service on some US flights from July 2024 end due to caterer strike

JAL First Class Meal
Passengers flying from Boston and Dallas will receive minimal meal service from the end of July 2024 until JAL’s caterer strike’s end.

Due to a local catering company planning to go on a major strike, JAL will greatly reduce the level of meal service on flights from Boston to Tokyo Narita (JL7) and from Dallas to Tokyo Haneda (JL11) starting from July 30, 2024. The strike’s end date has not been set.

For the duration of the strike, JAL will serve simplified meals such as bento boxes and light meals on the two flights in all classes. Special meals including children’s meals and meals for those with allergies and religious requirements among others, will not be available. Pre-order service usually available for first and business class customers will be suspended on the two flights for the duration of the strike too.

Onboard duty free sales will be discontinued as well “due to lack of onboard space” too, the airline said in a statement. As such, it appears catering for the return leg will be loaded in Japan rather than secured from another provider in the US.
