On April 26, 2024, The Sankei Shimbun reported that JAL canceled flight 11 from Dallas Fort Worth to Tokyo Haneda on April 24, 2024, due to the flight’s captain’s inappropriate behavior at the hotel he was staying at. The airline has since issued an apology for the incident.

According to the report, the captain of April 22’s JAL flight 12 from Tokyo Haneda to Dallas Forth Worth, who was also scheduled to operate the canceled flight, had dinner together with another captain, a first officer, and four flight attendants starting around 6PM. After the dinner, the group returned to their hotel and drank at the hotel’s lounge.

Around 11PM, they moved to the captain’s room. The group’s unruly behavior led to a warning by the hotel’s staff, as well as to the police being called.

While the captain did not test positive for alcohol prior to the flight, JAL decided to cancel the flight nonetheless. The cancelation affected 157 passengers, the majority of which was rebooked to a non-stop American Airlines flight on the same day.
