On February 2, 1954, JAL operated its first international flight, from Tokyo to San Francisco via Wake Island and Honolulu, using a DC-6. Commemorating its 70th anniversary, on January 27, 2024, JAL flew a charter flight on the route using a 777-300ER registered JA743J. The aircraft flew from Tokyo Narita to Honolulu, deviating from the flight’s ordinary flight path to fly around Wake Island (albeit without landing there this time around) as JL604 and then continued to San Francisco as JL602.
