J-Air to finish installing wi-fi on all E190s in mid-July 2024

J-Air operates a fleet of Embraer E170s and E190s on behalf of JAL.

Since 2022, JAL’s regional subsidiary J-Air has been going through the process of installing in-flight wi-fi on its Embraer E190s. On June 20, 2024, the airline announced that from July 11, 2024, onboard internet provided by Intelsat will be available on all 14 airframes of the type J-Air operates.

Like on mainline JAL, passengers traveling on J-Air can browse the internet, and use email and social networks free of charge. Additionally, between July 12, and September 30, 2024, the airline will allow passengers traveling on its E190s to stream videos for free using its “J-AIR Unlimited Video Streaming Service” to commemorate the wi-fi deployment completion.

Once the last E190 is equipped with onboard wi-fi, all domestic mainline JAL and all J-Air aircraft excluding its smaller E170s will offer free onboard connectivity.

While announcing the milestone, JAL also noted that it plans to improve internet connection speed on domestic flights and to make wi-fi on international flights free. JAL offered the latter for a month in February 2024 as part of the 70th anniversary of its international operations celebration. Select JAL Mileage Bank status holders continue to have free wi-fi access onboard the airline’s international flights.
