Hong Kong Airlines is ready to return to Kagoshima after over a four-year break.

Kagoshima Prefecture announced Hong Kong Airlines will be resuming flights from Hong Kong to Kagoshima Airport on March 31, 2024. The route will be returning after about a four-year hiatus caused by the pandemic.

The route, which was suspended in the second half of February 2020, will operate three times a week with the following schedule once resumed:

  • HX670 / Hong Kong – Kagoshima / 8:45AM – 12:55PM / Wed, Fri, Sun
  • HX671 / Kagoshima – Hong Kong / 1:55PM – 4:15PM / Wed, Fri, Sun

Hong Kong Airlines will use its Airbus A320 aircraft on the route. While the airline operates the A320 in two different configurations, reportedly Kagoshima will be served by the one with 174 economy class seats and no business class rather than the one with eight business class seats and 144 economy class seats.

The airline’s rival and Cathay Pacific’s subsidiary HK Express already serves Kagoshima three times a week. The Hong Kong Airlines’ Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday flights will complement HK Express’ Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday flights for combined operation on the route on six days of the week.

Hong Kong Airlines already serves a number of destinations in Japan including but not limited to Tokyo Narita, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Sapporo, Nagoya Chubu, and Naha.
