Strong wind at Tokyo Haneda leads to cancellation of dozens of flights

The strong wind mostly affected domestic ANA and JAL flights.

Today, February 27, 2024, an unusually strong wind in the Tokyo area led to the cancellation of more than 70 domestic flights out of Tokyo Haneda according to Nippon TV. Most of the flights were to be operated by ANA or JAL.

According to the Nippon TV report, 54 JAL flights and 30 ANA flights affecting over 7,000 and over 4,000 passengers respectively were canceled. Haneda Airport’s website indicates an even bigger impact with 54 JAL flights, 57 ANA, and 6 Air Do flights in and out of the airport being canceled (albeit some of the discrepancy in the ANA numbers might be due to weather-unrelated cancellations).

The situation in Tokyo is expected to get back to normal tomorrow. That said, ANA has issued a wind advisory for Nakashibetsu, Fukushima, and Hachijojima airports while JAL has done so for Nakashibetsu and Kushiro in Hokkaido.
