At the end of October 2023, just over half a year after launch, El Al suspended its flights between Tel Aviv and Tokyo Narita route due to the geopolitical situation in Israel. On March 6, 2024, the airline resumed the route.
The route originally launched at the beginning of March 2023 after a three-year delay caused by the pandemic. At the time, it was operated twice a week, non-stop in both directions.
This time around, the schedule appears to be considerably more irregular in the beginning. While the first flight post-resumption was operated non-stop, it appears that the first post-resumption flight to Tel Aviv will pick up passengers in Bangkok. For the rest of March and for April 2024, one to four weekly rotations are scheduled depending on the week (except for the week of April 22, 2024, in the direction from Tel Aviv and the following week in the other direction which have no flights).
The schedule appears to stabilize in May 2024 from which point onward the flights are scheduled to operate twice a week with the following schedule:
- LY91 / Tel Aviv – Tokyo / 8:15PM – 1:50PM+1 / Wed
- LY91 / Tel Aviv – Tokyo / 11:30PM – 5:05PM+1 / Sat
- LY92 / Tokyo Narita – Tel Aviv / 4:05PM – 11:05PM / Thu
- LY92 / Tokyo Narita – Tel Aviv / 7:30PM – 2:30AM+1 / Sun
El Al uses Boeing 787-8 aircraft on the flights, offering a total of 238 seats including 20 in business, 35 in premium economy, and 183 in economy class.
El Al is the only airline operating direct flights between Japan and Israel.
