China Eastern plans Shanghai – Hiroshima service expansion from late July 2024

The new frequency will be operated using the A320 rather than the A319 used on the existing frequencies.

On June 12, 2024, Hiroshima Airport announced that from July 28, 2024, China Eastern Airlines will add an extra weekly flight from Shanghai Pudong to Hiroshima. With the new Sunday frequency, the route will operate four times a week.

The schedule will be as follows:

  • MU293 / Shanghai Pudong – Hiroshima / 9:30AM – 12:40PM / Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun*
  • MU294 / Hiroshima – Shanghai Pudong / 1:40PM – 2:55PM / Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun**

* The frequency starting on July 28, 2024, is scheduled to arrive 10 minutes earlier than the flights on the remaining days of the week (at 12:30PM).
** The frequency starting on July 28, 2024, is scheduled to arrive five minutes earlier than the flights on the remaining days of the week (at 2:50PM).

While China Eastern uses Airbus A319s with 122 seats including eight in business and 114 in economy class on the existing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday frequencies, it will use the larger A320 with 158 seats including eight in business and 150 in economy class on the upcoming Sunday frequency.

The airline resumed the Shanghai – Hiroshima route which, like other international routes to the airport, was canceled when the pandemic hit the world, on September 22, 2023.

In addition to China Eastern’s flights from Shanghai Pudong, Hiroshima is also served by Air China from Beijing via Dalian. Other international airlines serving Hiroshima Airport include China Airlines from Taipei Taoyuan, Jeju Air from Seoul Incheon, and VietJet from Hanoi.
